Sample Activities:

·       A public relations firm has been hired to develop and produce a documentary alerting young adults to the need for fiscal responsibility when using credit cards. As an employee, you have been asked to develop a five-minute demo for the client.

·       An individual wants to select a career pathway….in an area of interest for future employment and postsecondary and lifelong learning.

·       Budgeting:  The First Step to Financial Freedom

·       The Finances of Purchasing Your First Home

·       Look at MONEY TALK$, Volume 1, Issue 3, Summer 2004, Do you know where your money goes worksheet? This would be the first activity done early in the year in order to have the students analyze their spending habits. This can be found on the website www.delawaremoneyshool.com.

·       Use activities from Financial Literacy 2010 available at www.fl2010.org.

·       Related to the previous activity, go to Volume 1, Issue 2 and have the students individually complete MIND YOUR MONEY.

·       As an example, students will rework a budget for Gabrielle (www.practicalmoneyskills.com). They will determine the budgeted amount, the actual amount spent, the variance for her income, and her fixed and variable expenses. Upon completion, the students can analyze Gabrielle’s budget plan and make possible suggestions to evaluate and revise her budget.

·       For class “grade level” dues and fundraising, students might be required to pay annual dues and participate in fundraisers. A percentage of fundraising efforts will be applied to the individual’s account to offset the cost of prom, yearbook or project graduation. Students are required to periodically check their accounts and twice a year sign off on their account.

·       Students will be given characteristics of a household budget including salaries, rent or mortgage expenses, auto loans, daycare expenses, utilities expenses, student loans and some other variable and fixed expenses. They will create a budget based on these characteristics.

·       Use activities from the NEFE High School Financial Planning Programs found at http://www.nefe.org/hsfla/. Other lesson plans and activities can be found at http://lessonplans.btskinner.com/genbus.html.
