Cumulative Progress Indicator: 1 - The student will explain and demonstrate how character and behavior affects and influences the actions of others in the home, school, and community.

 

Grade: 8

 

Sample Activities:

 

·       A school wide unity day to celebrate diversity is being planned by the school. As part of the celebration, a mini-Olympics will be held. A plan needs to be developed and implemented to include opening exercises, main events, and closing ceremonies. A small budget has been allocated but will need to be supplemented

 

·       Kente Cloth Design

 

·       Our Town

 

·      Develop noncompetitive activities to participate in as an individual or a team. An example might be a sports day at the end of the school year with each grade or team creating an event for part of the total day program. Write a journal entry on the impact of each activity on the student.

 

·      Discuss sportsmanship and ways to practice it. Role play different scenarios such as:
i. Being a team leader/captain.
ii. Another player from the other team trips you.
iii. A parent boos a player on his own team.
iv. A player whines to the coach because he/she has not played in the game.

 

·      Brainstorm how losing situations can be adapted to become positive learning opportunities.

 

·      Create a story that illustrates the impact of character traits and skills in the world of work.

 

·      Research bankruptcy and its consequences in the personal and business world.
