Cumulative Progress Indicator: 4 - The student will explain a person’s responsibility to obey the laws and rules.

Sample Activities:

 

·       Current transportation systems consume natural resources and add to pollution and congestion.

 

·       Many towns/municipalities have laws related to wearing safety helmets when riding a bike, skateboard, or scooter.  Explain why such laws have been passed.

 

·       Have a local police officer come to class to explain the need for laws related to bikes, scooters, and skateboards.  In the discussion, include consequences of disobeying the laws.

 

·       Investigate laws related to seat belts or crossing streets as a pedestrian.  Create a poster to express the need for following the laws.  Hang posters in classrooms, school halls, and/or public libraries. 

 

·       Students brainstorm rules for the classroom.  Vote on the rules each feel are most important.  Prepare a poster of the agreed upon rules.  Students make bumper stickers related to the rules.  Post in classroom.
