Sample Activities:

 

·        The town has decided to build a new school. Prepare a presentation to convince the local board of education.

 

·        Earth is becoming uninhabitable

 

·        The behavior of sports stars and movie personalities has been called into question. Develop a system for identifying and promoting positive role models in the community.

 

·        Current transportation systems consume natural resources and add to pollution and congestion.

 

·        Students will prepare a resume and cover letter using the guidelines provided at the USA Today’s Career Quest link, www.usatoday.com/educate/careers/resume.htm.

 

·        Students will develop a marketing plan for a business, product or organization. The marketing plan should be creative and original and reach a target market that the current marketing plan is not reaching.

 

·        Students will visit local elementary schools on their Career Days and present information regarding the characteristics and skills necessary to be successful in a specific occupational area. (Students enrolled in Small Learning Communities can speak about careers as they relate to the community in which they are enrolled. Students enrolled at an institute of technology may speak about careers in their concentration. Students enrolled in a regular comprehensive high school may speak about careers that correlate with their career interests, e.g. marketing students could speak about career opportunities in entrepreneurship.)

 

·        Students will develop a technology plan for a retail business. Students will then contact vendors to discuss their needs to determine Internet services, hardware, and software costs. Students will make any revisions that may be needed to the plan based upon input from the vendors and vendors’ representatives. Students will write a report summarizing his/her plan.
