· Students will review and update their portfolios. Students will use resources such as The Dictionary of Occupational Titles and The Occupational Outlook Handbook to review previously chosen career choices and determine whether or not these choices are still of interest to them. Students will then research the educational requirements to enter these occupations and determine how these requirements may be met. Students will obtain copies of the curriculum for these majors from the educational institution, guidance office, library, Internet or other source. Students will update their career objectives based on their findings.
· Students will complete a self-assessment that will include work related values, lifestyle choices that will include location, work environment, time requirements, training/education and salary. Students will write a paper on how lifestyles, work related values, and lifestyle choices interconnect. Students will reassess their career choices based upon their findings.
· Students have the opportunity to update their personal growth plan by participating in the competitive event programs offered by DECA, FCCLA, FBLA-PBA, HOSA, TSA and VICA. These events give students the opportunity to develop the skills necessary for success in a career path and demonstrate their proficiency in these occupations. Some examples of these events are DECA’s Individual Series Events, FCCLA’s Families First and Career Connection, FBLA’s Accounting and Entrepreneurship, HOSA’s Category II – Health Science Skill Events, TSA’s Career Comparisons, and VICA’s Computer Maintenance Technology, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, and Culinary Arts. Guidelines for these and other events can be found at the organizations’ web sites.
· Students will participate in a structured learning experience that directly correlates with their career goals.
· Students will go to www.goventure.net and complete the self evaluation. Students interested in running their own business may also complete the assessment on www.officedepot.com – Small Business Handbook – Starting Your Business. Students will review their career portfolios and update them based on their findings.
