Sample Activities:

·        Explain that conflict is a natural part of life. Brainstorm some of the stories they have recently read and identify examples of conflict. Conflict can be beneficial and can help bring about positive changes. Conflict can also lead to anger and violence. It all depends on how the conflict is handled by the people involved. The purpose of this project is to find ways to resolve disagreements constructively. On the board, list examples in the news, in movies, in literature, in the local area (a time when you were working with a partner and he/she left most of the work for you to do). Use some of the following procedures: 1) The people involved in the conflict decide together what the main problem is, 2) Each person presents his or her view of the problem, using "I" statements to reveal how he/she feels rather than "you" statements criticizing the other person(s) involved: I feel bad when or I feel angry when, 3) Each person should summarize what the other person said to show there is no misunderstanding, and 4) Both people think about and discuss possible solutions until they can agree.

·         Define criticism.  What is constructive criticism and destructive criticism?  How do each type make one feel?  What are the advantages and disadvantages of each type?  Role play ways of providing constructive criticism related to various situations.
