Sample Activities:

 

·       The local landfills are full. Propose a solution which encompasses local government, local citizens and local business.

 

·       An individual wants to select a career pathway….in an area of interest for future employment and postsecondary and lifelong learning.

 

·       The behavior of sports stars and movie personalities has been called into question. Develop a system for identifying and promoting positive role models in the community.

 

·       Career Choices of Famous African Americans

 

·       Careers-It’s Not Just for Grownups!

 

·       Interview parents and/or neighbors regarding their work duties and responsibilities. Prepare a presentation for the class.

 

·       View videos depicting various occupations. Orally report on duties and responsibilities of two occupations as seen at http://www.acinet.org/acinet/videos.asp?id=27,&nodeid=27. (Department of Labor site)

 

·       Invite community members (encourage the use of retired community members) into the classroom to discuss various occupations. Prepare a list of questions to ask the presenters. Write I learned statement after hearing the speaker.

 

·       Construct a mobile about one of the 16 States Career Clusters showing types of jobs for employment and responsibilities/tasks for the jobs.

 

·       List five careers you may be interested in in the future. Think about your health conditions and how health might prevent you from entering a career. Write a projection of interest areas based on your interests, skills, and physical needs. (Think about outdoor vs. indoor interests, mechanical activities, mathematical interests, scientific interests, persuasive interests, artistic interests, literacy interests, musical interests, social service interests, clerical interests, and desire to work with people, things, or data, etc.)
