Cumulative Progress Indicator: 1 - The student will describe the potential and implications of contemporary and emerging computer applications for personal, social, lifelong learning, and workplace needs.

 

Grade: 12

 

Sample Activities:

 

·        A school wide unity day to celebrate diversity is being planned by the school. As part of the celebration, a mini-Olympics will be held. A plan needs to be developed and implemented to include opening exercises, main events, and closing ceremonies. A small budget has been allocated but will need to be supplemented.

 

·        An individual wants to select a career pathway….in an area of interest for future employment and postsecondary and lifelong learning.

 

·        Research various computer software/hardware features being proposed or recently developed. Prepare a presentation describing the features and various potential implications of development in the 21st century. Include research on futurist approaches and applications to work and society. All students should be able to draw conclusions based on research and general knowledge.

 

·        Debate the use of computers and information technology to identify a person’s genetic characteristics and to help determine possible birth defects in future children or future. Students might also debate using technology to determine potential for adult health issues. Include information about insurance potentials and problems.

 

·        Research the long-term advantages of using computer programs to maintain patient statistics in the hospital while patients are being tested and treated.
