Cumulative Progress Indicator: 4 -  The student, given a database, define fields, input data from multiple records, will produce a report using sort and query, and interpret the data.

Sample Activities:

 

·       Climatic conditions have changed in the twenty-first century. Research scientists are looking at the oceans to create habitable communities. Create an underwater community.

 

·       Mr./Ms. Z's company has decided to relocate the employee and the family overseas. The employment opportunities exist in Australia, Brazil, China, Kenya, and Switzerland. Your family must make the decision as to the country of preference with a backup alternative. Provide a justification to the human resource department. Be prepared to negotiate a contract that meets career, financial, and personal needs.

 

·       Earth is becoming uninhabitable

 

·       Students create a database to include research information in choosing the appropriate healthcare providers.

 

·       Students create a database using a template from a database program to develop an address books with classmates names, phone numbers, and addresses. This will need to be a secure document that is not posted on the Internet to protect individuals.

 

·       Each student brings in a listing of all their personal videotapes, DVD's, or cd’s they have purchased. The student will create a database listing the title, date released, purchase price, and media type. Students can then search, sort, analyze and manage a database. To evaluate the activity, students can create an informative essay.

 

·       Students can select and meet with various presidents and/or leaders of school organizations, groups, or intramural clubs to create a database for them. The database can contain membership data or activity data. Be sure that confidential student information is treated appropriately.
