Content Area: Technological Literacy
Index: 8.1A Grade 8 CPI 10
Standard:8.1 - Computer and Information Literacy
Strand: A - Basic Computers Skills and Tools
Cumulative Progress Indicator: 10 - The student will use network resources for storing and retrieving data.
Grade: 8
Sample Activities:
· Earth is becoming uninhabitable.
· Work cooperatively in small groups to create a multimedia slideshow presentation that supports, reviews, or enhances the curriculum. For example, at the end of a social studies unit on the Renaissance, students will create separate slides that highlight features of the period (music, art, politics, dress, etc.) and be prepared to deliver an oral presentation about their particular topic. As each group researches and creates slides for its share of the presentation, the slides will be saved to the network server. After all groups have finished designing their slides, the groups will work together to merge all the slides into the final multimedia presentation.
· For the purpose of review, students will download relevant clips from a digital streaming video library and save the clips (save based on ethical procedures for use) to their network folder or to share/transfer folders so that other students may also access the clips easily and without needing an Internet connection to see the clips. Describe how the clips pertain to the content of the course
· The teacher will create a document that requires editing and revision. It might contain grammatical, structural, spelling, content, or other types of errors. The teacher will save the document to the network or into a share/transfer folder. The teacher will demonstrate for students how to retrieve the document. It will be possible for students to retrieve the document from the computer lab or from the classroom computer. Students will edit and revise the document and save again in student's folder. The teacher can then retrieve the students’ work and assess each student’s progress. This activity could work especially well for language arts literacy and world languages.
