Sample Activities:

 

·       Introduction to Computer Lab - Go over the parts of the computer and terms used to describe the parts. Introduce keyboarding, discuss correct finger placement and proper posture. In a separate lesson, introduce computer icons that can be found on the desktop and what they mean. When using software programs in conjunction with academic content use correct terminology in the following areas: word processing, spreadsheet, database, multimedia presentation, graphic organizer, etc. Use correct terminology when modeling the use of the Internet.

 

·       Use words of the day to include a technology term.

 

·       For grade K, students use word processing programs to keyboard student's name.  Emphasize keywords and commands like: "use a capital letter to start entering your name."  "Open" blank document.  Use shift key and letter to get capital letter. Students may use other software applications like http://www.enchantedlearning.com/letters/all.shtml to spell names and print.  Students can practice tracing over letters and numbers.
