Index: 5.4C Grade 4 CPI 3

Standard: 5.4 - Nature and Process of Technology

Strand: C - Technological Design

Cumulative Progress Indicator: 3 -  The student will use the design process to identify a problem, look for ideas, and develop and share solutions with others.

Grade: 4

Sample Activities:

·       Robin Whirlybird on her Rotorcraft Adventures - Inquiry - based exploration to stimulate students' curiosity and engage them in activities that involve the scientific method: http://rotored.arc.nasa.gov/index.html

·       Teachers conduct discussions and students complete Internet research on batteries.  Conduct a Volta experiment in class and then have students design an environmentally safe and biodegradable battery.  Look on the Internet for "lemon batteries" to find procedures to follow.  Students hypothesese whether sweet fruits or sour fruits will make batteries with higher voltage.

·       Students design paper airplanes with balloon power.

·       Build a technological instrument to video an animal in the ocean.  Resource: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/crittercam/missions.html
