Content Area: Math
Index: 4.2A Grade 4 CPI 2
Standard: 4.2 - Geometry and Measurement
Strand: A - Geometric Properties
Cumulative Progress Indicator: 2 - The student will use properties of standard three-dimensional and two-dimensional
shapes to identify, classify, and describe them.
·
Vertex, edge, face, side, angle
·
3D figures – cube, rectangular prism, sphere, cone, cylinder, and
pyramid
·
2D figures – square, rectangle, circle, triangle, quadrilateral,
pentagon, hexagon, octagon
·
Inclusive relationships – squares are rectangles, cubes are
rectangular prisms
Grade: 4
Sample Activities:
·
Students make a chart or bar graph showing how many
squares, rectangles, triangles, etc., they find in their classroom.
·
Students "walk" a shape and have other
students guess the shape
·
Students classify shapes according to whether they
contain right angles only, all angles smaller than a right angle, or at least
one angle larger than a right angle.
·
One student thinks of a shape. The others ask questions
about its properties, trying to guess it. For example, Does it have a right
angle?
