Index: 2.5A Grade 8 CPI 5

Standard: 2.5 - Motor Skills

Strand: A -   Movement Skills

Cumulative Progress Indicator: 5 - The student will compare and contrast the use of movement skills across various forms of physical activity and transfer a movement skill from one activity to another.

Grade: 8

Sample Activities:

·        VOLLEYBALL/BASKETBALL - Divide the class into small groups, and position one group on either side of a volleyball net. Students throw the volleyball back and forth over the net. The ball must be received using basketball techniques (e.g., pivot, chest pass) and may be passed to a teammate before going over the net. Dribbling is not permitted, and the ball must be caught in the air. Award team points when the ball goes over the net and lands in court, when the ball handler commits a violation or dribbles, or when a ball handler steps on a boundary line.

Variation: Use a beach ball rather than a volleyball. Discuss how the use of a different weight ball alters play.
