Cumulative Progress Indicator: 4 - The student will discuss the importance of regular prenatal care to help prevent complications that may occur during pregnancy and childbirth.

Sample Activities:

 

·        PRENATAL CARE - Divide the class into small groups. Each group researches one of the following factors that impact prenatal human development and presents a brief oral report to the class. Students should include information specific to adolescent mothers.

 

PRENATAL CARE RESEARCH TOPICS:

      -      Exercise,

-      Nutrition/Diet of mother,

-      Safety issues,

-      Prenatal classes,

-      Parenting programs,

-       Age of the mother,

-       General health of the mother,

-       Genetic or hereditary health conditions,

-       Environmental impact on fetal development, 

-       Use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs during pregnancy

-       Diagnostic procedures to determine the health of mother and baby,

-       Protection from STDs and HIV infection
