Sample Activities:
· INHALANTS (with modifications for grade level) - Use a video (e.g., Inhalant Use: Please Don’t Breathe My Fumes available from ETR Associates, 1-800- 321-4407) to illustrate the effects of household substances used for mood-altering effects. Discuss how substances not normally considered drugs can cause serious short and long-term effects, such as respiratory or brain damage. As a follow-up activity, each student writes a letter to the parents of kindergarten or preschool students, warning them of the dangers of poisons and inhalants in their home and outlining suggestions to improve household safety. Be sure the letters include information on how to access the poison control center. Students include fact sheets and pamphlets from a variety of sources in the parent information packet. |
