Sample Activities:
Virtual Museum - Students select images to represent what they consider to be the three most representative examples of images in an assigned category (e.g. sculpture, architecture, painting, ceramics, collage, photography, printmaking, and other works on paper). · Students should consider aesthetic classifications (e.g. Formalism, Imitationalism, Emotionalism, Functionalism) and historic significance, cultural context, craftsmanship, artistic period, originality and any other category desired. · Selected images should be placed in a PowerPoint presentation to represent a virtual museum. · Students defend their choices.
Essential Questions · Is it necessary for us all to use the same frame of reference or can we each have criteria that may or may not overlap with each other? · Do you need to know the artist's intention to appreciate the artwork?
Reflective Practice: With the opportunity to assume the role of arts critic, philosopher and/or historian, what are the essential skills necessary and moral responsibilities required to appropriately fill the requirements of the position? |
