Sample Activities:

 

Musical Celebration: Students will sing/perform on instruments/move to songs from 2-3 different cultures which deal with different celebrations in those cultures.
·        Students will perform the songs in the native language where appropriate.
·        Students will discuss the particular event being celebrated and how not all cultures celebrate the same events.
·        Students can discuss how different cultures celebrate the same holiday through music (Thanksgiving/ Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Christmas Around the World, religious holidays, patriotic days).

 

Essential Questions:
·        Why is it important to have music to celebrate holidays?
·        How does the music affect the nature of the celebration?
·        How does the nature of the celebration affect the music?

 

Reflective Response:
·        How did the music make you feel about a particular holiday or celebration?
