Sample Activities:

Storm Dance - In two groups, create a "storm" dance. Include movements representing wind, rain, clouds, thunder, lightening etc.
·        Observe the design and movement elements in the dance and how they compare to the natural elements.
·        List the different shapes of the wind, rain, clouds, thunder and lightening, etc.

      ·        Discuss the effects of concentration (clarity of shape) on the performance quality.

Essential Questions:

      ·        Draw images of the wind, rain, clouds, thunder & lightning. Are the shapes like, or unlike, the shapes the dancers made with their bodies?
·        Do clearer shapes make the message of the dance clearer?

Reflective Practice:
·        Does a choreographer think of the idea first (such as a storm) or the shapes?
