Acting Without Words:
Use movement to communicate and develop character.

Brainstorm ways to express oneself without words.

Students form a circle. A label is placed on each student's back (e.g. lawyer,
The Thinker, a snob, Miss America, telephone repair person).

Students nonverbally communicate the word on the other person's back.
·
Students try to figure out what their label is through nonverbal
communication.
·
Discuss the difficulties of communicating. Ask what aspects were helpful or
confusing.
·
In pairs, students interact with one another in "Park Bench."
·
One character is sitting on the park bench. The other character enters. Each
must reveal something about their character through physical/nonverbal
communication.
·
Audience identifies the character trait.
·
Brainstorm other ways to show that trait.
