Cumulative Progress Indicator: 1 - The student will describe the principles of contrast and transition, the process of reordering and chance, and the structures of AB, ABA, canon, call and response, and narrative.

Sample Activities:

 

Physicalizing Emotion - Explore the nuances of rhythms, shapes, and qualities of facial expressions and body gestures that express a range of human emotions such as a slow, oval yawn depicts boredom.
·    Improvise and expand the originals into a movement phrase.

      ·    Select 2 dissimilar expressions or gestures and with a partner create a dance using the two phrases.
·    Add text to the dance and notice how words change the meaning of the dance.

 

Essential Questions:
·    Why is the face so important to a dancer?

      ·    Which changes the meaning of a dance more - the expression on the dancers face or the words they use?

 

Reflective Practice:
·    Is it possible to dance with no expression on your face?
