A Day at the Beach
- Select musical compositions that reflect a variety of styles (e.g. march,
waltz,) Observe works by a variety of visual artists that suit the music.
·
Select a character/image from the artwork, or a favorite creature associated
with the beach. Begin by encouraging students to use their entire bodies to move
with the music as the character. Provide students with directions during the
music (e.g. greet one another).
·
Play the selections again. This time, students should each hold a large paint
brush and move the paint brush demonstrating a variety of movements and
brushstrokes as suggested by the music.
·
Distribute a large sheet of paper, the size of a beach towel, and paints to
each student. Students paint an original composition that reflects what the
music suggests to them.
Essential Questions:
·
How can music, movement and role playing help us to create a visual image?
·
Are there similarities among the basic elements of the various art forms?
Reflective Practice:
·
What helped you most in creating your beach towel; the rhythm and tempo of the
music, actually moving your paintbrush through the air, becoming the creature?
