Sample Activities:
Twinkle, Twinkle -
Using "TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR" as a prompt, the class will compose a theme
and variation.

Have students sing "TWINKLE, TWINKLE" from a written page.

Students will identify the elements of music used in the song (rhythm, melody,
meter, harmony).

Brainstorm ways to change the elements to create different moods.
·
Compose: Divide students into four groups - each group will be responsible to
create and perform one variation. Students may include traditional and non-
traditional instruments, sounds, voices, etc.

Arrange: After the variations are composed, the class will decide on the order
of the variations in the piece.

Perform: The class will perform and record the Theme and Variations.
