Sample Activities:

 

Twinkle, Twinkle - Using "TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR" as a prompt, the class will compose a theme and variation.
·     Have students sing "TWINKLE, TWINKLE" from a written page.
·     Students will identify the elements of music used in the song (rhythm, melody, meter, harmony).
·     Brainstorm ways to change the elements to create different moods.
·     Compose: Divide students into four groups - each group will be responsible to create and perform one variation. Students may include traditional and non- traditional instruments, sounds, voices, etc.
·     Arrange: After the variations are composed, the class will decide on the order of the variations in the piece.
·     Perform: The class will perform and record the Theme and Variations.

Essential Question:
·     What are the relationships between the composer, the arranger and the performer in the creative process?

 

Reflective Practice:

      ·     Does a performer have an obligation to the composer or arranger to adhere to their performance ideas?
