Cumulative Progress Indicator: 1 - The student will craft dances with themes that have unity of form and content that demonstrate the ability to work alone and in small groups to create dances with coherence and aesthetic unity.

 

Grade: 12

 

Sample Activities:

 

Dance Composition - Students create movement combinations for the class that reflect complexity in dance technique, musicality and design.
·        Include contemporary concepts and intermediate level skills (e.g. extensions, off center turning and inverted supports.)
·        Practice the combination in the style of a particular artist such as Mark Morris or Twyla Tharp.

 

Essential Questions:
·        When teaching off-center turns to the class how do you communicate your ideas?

      ·        Which famous dance artists match your sense of style?

 

Reflective Practice: If you do not like a person's style, can you still appreciate their dance works?
