Cumulative Progress Indicator: 1 - The student will perform planned and improvised sequences demonstrating aspects of time, space/shape, and energy accurately transferring a rhythmic pattern from the auditory to the kinesthetic.

 

Grade: 6

 

Sample Activities:

 

Machine Dances - In small groups students create a machine (e.g. a washing machine, lawn mower, or conveyer belt.) using various body parts, shapes and levels.
·       Employ variations of tempo and rhythm.
·       Apply variations in weight and force.
·       Perform for members of the class.
·       Audience identifies when the groups use the same amounts of tension.

 

Essential Questions:
·       Is it easy or difficult to move with the same amount of tension as your classmates?
·       How is tension related to how you are feeling?

 

Reflective Practice:
·       How can choreographers use tension to communicate?
