District Assessments
Most districts
utilize ongoing evaluations,
which frequently align with the content and format of the state’s assessments, to monitor
the progress of all students in learning the district’s curriculum and the
state’s standards. The results of these assessments should be utilized to
identify a student's strengths and weaknesses and integrated into an IEP’s PLAAFP (Present
Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance) statements,
goals and objectives, and supplementary aids and services
The Newark Public Schools administer an array of assessments to students in every grade, which monitors their progress in meeting the state’s standards and learning the district’s curriculum. These assessments, if utilized appropriately inform the professional practice of teachers, administrators, and Child Study Team members. The various assessment results provide IEP teams with the academic strengths and weaknesses a student experiences and assist in in developing PLAAFP statements, goals/objectives, and supplementary aids and services.
However, too often, we are not aware of all the assessments that are given in each grade and how to interpret their results. If IEP teams had this information they would be in a better position to collect meaningful academic data, including questions to ask, which can also build capacity to utilize this data. The hyperlinks below will take you to Newark's grade level assessments and how to utilize them to identify each student’s academic strengths and weaknesses. In this endeavor, we utilize NTU's CPI checklists to better better align the processes with the general education curriculum and state standards, as recommended by the Access Center in this hyperlinked brief.
