Emotion in Play -
Improvise scenes using an emotion.
·
Use the alphabet as a script. For example, first person says "ABCD." Their
partner continues with "EFG." The conversation continues back and
forth. Any number of letters can be used.
·
Give an emotion which will inform the scene (anger, excitement).
·
Add in physical motions or gestures which show the emotion.
·
Discuss how volume, rhythm, pitch, and color communicate emotion.
·
Using prompts (e.g. "What are you doing here?" or "I knew you would come
back"), the students will express these simple phrases in different ways as if
they are angry, happy, worried, or sad.
Essential Questions:
·
What is the relationship between the voice, the emotion, and the movement?
Reflective Practice:
·
How could you apply these elements to performing a character in a play?
