Cumulative Progress Indicator: 2 - The student will synthesize knowledge of the elements of music.

 

Grade: 12

 

Sample Activities:

 

Music Composition - Divide class into various small groups and provide each group with a choice of stimuli - a painting, a piece of poetry, a short video clip with no sound. Each group will select their stimulus.
·        Each group must compose an original piece of music based on the stimulus utilizing all of the elements of music.
·        Each group must perform their composition and defend/explain their artistic decisions.

 

Essential Questions:
·        How can a composer use the elements to create a feeling/mood?
·        How have composers used the elements to create particular moods in movies?

 

Reflective Practice:
·        How has music been used to enhance other types of media (commercials, documentary films, etc)?
