Cumulative Progress Indicator: 1 - The student will identify musical elements in response to diverse aural prompts, such as rhythm, timbre, dynamics, form, and melody.

 

Grade: 2

 

Sample Activities:

 

Music Concepts - Using familiar songs ("Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"), students will identify the following concepts:
·        Melody - show melodic direction using hand movements.
·        Rhythm - select rhythmic pattern of song from a series of written rhythmic patterns.
·        Form - identify contrasting sections and create a different movement for each contrasting section.
·        Dynamics - assign different dynamics to each contrasting section and select different movements for each dynamic change.
·        Timbre - choose rhythm instruments that reflect the feeling of the lyrics (lightness, twinkling).

 

Essential Question:
·        How can movement help identify the various elements?

 

Reflective Practice:
·        What influenced your decision-making for each element?
