Strand: A - Dance

 

Cumulative Progress Indicator: 1 - The student will identify the basic dance elements of time, space/shape, and energy in planned and improvised dance sequences.

 

Grade: 2

 

Sample Activities:

 

A Profession Dance - Select a profession that exhibits a particular set of movements (e.g. baseball player, waitress, pizza maker.) Explore several modifications of those movements.
·        Choose preferences with regard to shapes or rhythm (e.g., the strokes of a painter, or the wave of a traffic officer.).
·        Demonstrate how the design and movement elements can develop into dance phrases.

 

Essential Questions:
·        Why are shapes important in dance?

      ·        Can you tell which profession a person is doing by the movements they chose?

 

Reflective Practice:
·        Are some jobs harder than others because of the movements they have to do? Which ones are harder?
