Grade: 4

Sample Activities:

Musical Modifications - Select a simple song, such as a Verse and Refrain.
·      Divide class into vocalists and instrumentalists.
·      Instruments may include recorders, tone chimes and rhythm instruments.
·      All instruments will play an accompaniment from a written page.
·      After performing the piece, students can suggest modifications to the elements of music to create a different version of the piece (changing meter, rhythms, dynamics, rearranging when instruments play).

Essential Question:
·      How can modifications make the piece more or less interesting?

Reflective Practice:
·      Of the modifications made, which modification had the most effect on the original song?
