Cumulative Progress Indicator: 5 - The student will create and perform the eight locomotor movements of walking, running, hopping, jumping, leaping, galloping, sliding, and skipping in a dance context.

 

Grade: 4

 

Sample Activities:

 

·        Students explore the use of four locomotor movements (skip, hop, run, walk) in relation to the use of body parts: then explore the use of body parts in leading, isolating and supporting. Then: add the use of low, medium, and high levels; explore pathways and shapes; and create, practice, and perform a dance sequence that incorporates changes in level, direction, pathway, and shape. Students create a dance phrase of four locomotor movements with variations in space, time, and energy using the basic elements of dance (body, space, time, energy). Practice and perform the dance. Discuss effects of concentration on performance quality.
